BEETLE RUN FOR WINDOWS DIRECTIONS --------------------------------- v1.1 By Soleau Software Copyright 1995 SHAREWARE VERSION Requires VGA/SVGA 256 Colors 386 33mhz or better Windows 3.1x 4 meg. Ram Mouse OBJECTIVE --------- The objective of Beetle Run is to keep the beetle moving through the path grids as long as possible. At the start of the game, you will have 6 seconds before the beetle starts to move out of the light green starting grid. You create a path for the beetle by rotating the grids clockwise by clicking on them with your mouse. After the beetle exits a grid, that pathway will change to a solid green block and cannot be used again. Note:The cross (+) paths never are removed from the board.) Your beetle can go off the game board from the top, bottom, right or left as long as the grid opposite the exit (top to bottom, right to left) is a valid entry path. 3 bonus points are awarded every time you exit and re-enter the board. These bonus points are added to your score at the end of each level. There is a Beetle Meter located on the left side of the board. This meter counts off the grids traveled. If you can get the beetle to travel 12 grids and can exit the game board, then the grids you've already used will be re-set. Each time you re-set the board, one black grid will appear on the board. These black grids can never be re-set. SCORE NEEDED ------------ In order to continue to the next level, you must reach the score needed shown above your present score on the left side of the screen. The score needed is computed as follows: Score + (Level * 25) + 250 FAST BUTTON / DOUBLE POINTS --------------------------- The beetle gains points the longer it travels. If you click on the FAST button, then the beetle will speed up and get double the points. When the beetle exits the board and re-enters it, the speed will resume at the normal pace. Using the Fast button is essential to gain high scores. Make sure your pathway is already set up before hand. The FAST button is above the Beetle Meter to the left of the game board. BONUS PATHS ----------- On some levels there will be special yellow Bonus Paths. If you can get your beetle to pass through them, you will be awarded 25 bonus points which will be added to your score at the end of the level. ARROW PATHS ----------- There are occasionally Arrow Path grids which have an arrow showing the direction that the beetle MUST pass through them. If you enter these grids in the wrong direction then the beetle will stop and the level will be over. 10 Bonus points are awarded for these grids. THREE WAY PATHS (FORK PATHS) ---------------------------- These paths are signified by the ? on them. If you enter these grids where the beetle comes to a fork in the path, the beetle will randomly select one of the possible directions. If you enter these paths going along in a straight line so that the beetle does not come to the fork, then it will continue in the same direction through the grid. BLUE 4 WAY PATH HOLES --------------------- On some levels, there are two Blue 4 Way Path grids on the game board. If the beetle enters these blue grids, it will re-appear from the other blue grid located elsewhere on the game board. The beetle will not change direction. RED ENDING GRIDS ---------------- On some levels there will be a Red Ending Grid on the game board. On these levels, you MUST END YOUR BEETLE INTO THIS GRID. If you fail to enter your beetle into the Ending Grid, the game will be over no matter how many points you scored for that level. ** REMEMBER ** you must end the beetle in the Ending Grid to continue onto the next level, provided you have scored the required points needed to do so. STARTING GRIDS -------------- The beetle will start to move out of the light green starting grid after 6 seconds have elapsed. The seconds are shown in the Timer Box above the Beetle Meter on the left side of the game board. During the 6 second count down, you can rotate this starting grid, but once the beetle starts to move, you cannot. On some higher levels there will be several beetle starting grids. You will not know which one of them is the real starting grid until the beetle starts to move. Some levels have as many a 5 starting grids, so you'll have to plan quickly for all possibilities. When the real beetle starts to move, the dummy starting grids will turn to the solid dark green tiles and will not be re-set until you can re-set the game board. BONUS ROUNDS ------------ Every 2500 points scored will earn you a special Bonus Round. You can only gain points during these rounds. When complete, you will then go onto the next level.
